Anselmo García MacNulty is set to join 1. FC Magdeburg on a free transfer, Sky reports.

The 2. Bundesliga club are said to have beaten competition from Italy and the Netherlands for the Irish centre-back.

MacNulty joined Wolfsburg’s youth ranks in 2019, then left at the end of his contract without a first-team appearance to sign for PEC Zwolle.

He has been an important figure for the Eredivisie club. Born in Seville, he has represented the Republic of Ireland at under-21 level.

Negotiations with Magdeburg are described as advanced, with the move considered imminent.

Magdeburg finished 14th in the 2025/26 season.
