Dublin could host the Women’s Champions League final

Dublin’s Aviva Arena could play host to the Women’s Champions League final in three years’ time.

The Football Association of Ireland confirmed on Wednesday that they have submitted a preliminary bid dossier to UEFA.

It was first revealed in October that Ireland and Wales confirmed interest in staging the final in 2029.

A statement on the Irish FA’s website stated that their experience of hosting Europa League finals in 2011 and 2024, as well as preparatory work towards the men’s Euro 2028 tournament, will help their bid.

They added: “The increased popularity of women & girls’ football puts the Association in a strong position to host the 28th staging of the Final of the top women’s club competition in Europe.

“The Association will continue to work closely with its partners ahead of the final bid submission in early June.”

Who are Ireland competing against to host the 2029 final?

Ireland are set to be in a four-way race to host the 2029 Women’s Champions League final.

Wales have also revealed their interest in hosting the final at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

Switzerland and France have also declared their interest in hosting the 2029 final.

The Swiss bid would see the final be held at St. Jakob’s Park in Basel, where England won the Women’s Euro 2025 final.

Meanwhile, the French bid is set at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon.

Both Switzerland and France have also submitted their stadiums for the 2028 Women’s Champions League final, alongside the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, Spain and Turkiye’s Ali Sami Yen Stadium.

When will UEFA decide who hosts the Women’s Champions League finals?

Ireland will have to submit their final bid to host the Women’s Champions League final by June 10th, 2026.

UEFA will decide who hosts both the 2028 and 2029 Women’s Champions League finals in September.

This season’s final will be staged at the Ulleval Stadion in Oslo, Norway. The Stadion Narodowy in Warsaw, Poland, will host the 2027 Women’s Champions League final.

Which tournaments and finals have Ireland hosted?

Ireland has never hosted the men’s or women’s final of the Champions League, but has hosted the men’s Europa League final on two occasions.

Wales perhaps hold an advantage in that they will stage games at the men’s Euro 2028 tournament. Wales, England, Northern Ireland and Scotland are also the sole bidders to host the 2035 Women’s World Cup.

The Principality Stadium also held the men’s Champions League final in 2017.
