Leeds United are moving towards a permanent exit for 26-year-old Isaac Schmidt, with a switch to Young Boys progressing, according to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk.
Schmidt joined from FC St Gallen two years ago and was initially signed as a full-back. He did not convince Daniel Farke in that role, and his rare cameos came late on in attacking positions. He made 12 Championship substitute appearances totalling 71 minutes as Leeds won the title, with two FA Cup starts.
The once-capped Swiss international spent last season at Werder Bremen, making 19 league appearances, six of them starts. He showed versatility on both sides of defence and further forward, but the loan was not made permanent. He also drew interest in Switzerland from FC Basel and Young Boys.
His departure would follow Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow, who left at the end of their contracts for Arsenal and Manchester United respectively.
Leeds are not currently permitting goalkeeper Lucas Perri to move. The Brazilian reported for pre-season testing at Leeds Beckett this week and will train at Thorp Arch. He is the club’s only senior goalkeeper to have played top flight football last season.
Though the situation could change with arrivals later in the window, Leeds are not in a position to loan him out. He has been linked in Italy with Torino, and he lost the first-choice role last season after two high-profile mistakes that Farke criticised.
On incomings, Leeds are biding their time over Southampton’s Shea Charles and hold interest in Sassuolo centre-back Tarik Muharemović. The Bosnian is viewed as an ideal replacement for Pascal Struijk after his move to Brighton this summer, and it could take a club record fee to land the former Juventus defender.
