Italian journalist Sandro Sabatini heaped praise on Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu amid the team’s purple patch.

Speaking on his YouTube channel via FCInter1908, Sabatini compared Chivu’s early regime to Simone Inzaghi’s tenure.

Cristian Chivu took Inzaghi’s place in the dugout in June despite being relatively new to senior management.

Though his appointment raised more than a few eyebrows in the summer, the 45-year-old has already silenced his detractors.

Indeed, Inter headed into November’s international break as joint Serie A pacesetters, alongside Roma.

Furthermore, they remain one of only three sides with a 100% record in this season’s Champions League.

Inter had been on a roll before the break, winning 11 of their 12 matches across all competitions.

Moreover, Chivu’s charges have bagged an eye-catching 37, including a league-high 26 in Serie A.

On that basis, it’s hard to shrug off the feeling that Chivu has picked up where Inzaghi left off, if not taken Inter to an even higher level.

“It’s normal to make comparisons, to debate,” Sabatini said. “But it really annoys me when people say, ‘How can you say Chivu is better than Inzaghi when Inzaghi was there for four years?’

“I get it. Chivu hasn’t had four years; he hasn’t even been in charge of Inter for four months yet.

“But can’t I say he’s doing some things better? Inter came out shattered from last season, and they’ve managed to fix themselves.

“With who? With Chivu – that’s the reality. Would the same thing have happened with Inzaghi? I don’t know.

“But if I reason like those people, I’d say no, and who can prove me wrong? Where’s the evidence?”

Chivu’s credentials will face a formidable test after the international break, with Inter set to take on AC Milan in the latest edition of the famous Derby della Madonnina.
