Manchester City’s Kyle Walker has been handed a brutally honest review by one Italian newspaper concerning his six-month loan spell at AC Milan.
The England international is fresh off the back of a temporary stay in the Italian top-flight after demanding a change of scenery away from the Etihad Stadium at the midway stage of the last campaign.
At a time when Manchester City were facing numerous complications across competitions, their club captain deemed it a reasonable time to sound out a fresh opportunity in the game during the January window, assessing what options could come to the table.
Amid interest from Major League Soccer in the United States as well as the Saudi Pro League, Walker’s determination to remain at the summit of European football proved telling and he shook hands on a short-term loan deal at the San Siro.
While the deal also featured an option to buy for the Italian club this summer, understood to be worth around €5 million, it is now highly unlikely that they will take up that opportunity due to performance reasons, fitness concerns, and his age.
But news outlets in Italy are certainly not holding back when it comes to assessing the overall stint endured by the 35-year-old in Serie A, with a brutal assessment released into the public domain this week.
A new report from Italian newspaper Tuttosport has claimed that ‘failure has the face of Walker’, before going on to state the Manchester City defender has not done much apart from attracting attention by spitting water before games and imitating ‘his role model’ Triple H.
As translated and relayed by Sport Witness, the report points out that the wrestler’s iconic theme song was also played during a league game purely for Walker, but the performances of the England international have been disappointing despite special treatment.
The newspaper has also noted an interview from Walker whilst at the Spanish Grand Prix, in which the 35-year-old suggested that staying in Milan was a possibility – which it is made clear to not be the case.
There is further comment regarding the ongoing gossip that has come with the full-back’s personal life, in which the report suggests has not been helpful to the player’s situation and Milan themselves do not want that sort of noise around players.
For now, it remains to be seen what other opportunities could emerge for Kyle Walker during the now-ongoing summer transfer window, with the player having always thought about the possibility of returning to his boyhood club, Sheffield United.
The Blades narrowly missed out on promotion back into the Premier League as they lost the Championship play-off final to Sunderland late last month, in a defeat that has cost the Bramall Lane club millions to re-invest into their playing squad.
One thing is for certain that Kyle Walker is not a part of Manchester City’s plans any longer, with Pep Guardiola having already confirmed that the veteran full-back would certainly not be joining the squad in their FIFA Club World Cup campaign over in the United States this month.
When will Manchester City resume training ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup?
