Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella feels that Inter Milan face too much criticism, but responded on the pitch against Venezia.
The 27-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, after the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 Serie A win against the Lagunari. He also had words of praise for teammate Matteo Darmian.
Inter got 2025 off to a rocky start.
After a convincing win over Atalanta in the Supercoppa Italiana semifinal, the Nerazzurri suffered a difficult defeat in that competition’s final.
That loss came against city rivals AC Milan. And to make it even worse, Inter were 2-0 up during the second half, throwing away that lead.
Therefore, it was perhaps inevitable that Inter would come under scrutiny.
Accordingly, today’s Serie A clash with Venezia was an important one to change the mood around the team.
Inter midfielder Barella admitted that “The days after a big loss are always rough.”
“Particularly if you lose a derby, and it’s for a trophy.”
“But we’re a great team,” the 27-year-old continued. “Because we know how to respond to criticism, which at times is a bit too much.”
“We like to let the pitch speak for itself,” Barella made clear.
And of teammate Matteo Darmian’s decisive goal in the first half, scored after Venezia keeper Venezia keeper Filip Stankovic saved Lautaro Martinez’s shot, Barella said “That’s something he has in his locker.”
“He can score from rebounds,” Barella said of the former Manchester United and Torino defender.
“We have to congratulate him. He’s an example for all of us to follow with the attitude he has.”
“We thank him, and what he always gives us,” Barella added of Darmian.
And of the rest of January for Inter, Barella said that “We certainly have a lot of matches in not that many days.”
“We’ll have to manage our energy,” the Italian international noted.
Barella said that “We know it’s tough.”
“But it’s good to play in these demanding matches. We’re ready for this tough fixture list, the important thing is that we have everyone available.”
