Leicester City manager Rick Passmoor says that his side need to play to the game plan and their principles if they are to continue to develop towards their long-term goals.

The Foxes end the calendar year with a fixture against London City Lionesses at The King Power Stadium this afternoon.

Leicester City currently occupy 10th place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table. When speaking in the pre-match press conference, manager Passmoor said that a couple of positive results would change the narrative, however, the signs are positive.

“If you had flipped it and had just come in off two or three draws or results, there would potentially be a different feel from the outside,” Passmoor said. “What was really important when I looked at last week [against Manchester City] was our character, resilience and robustness.

“It’s a journey of growth, a journey of learning. We are all aligned to ensure that we match our intentions. The strategy over the mid-to-long term is to be a sustainable, regular WSL1 team that people respect and value across the women’s game.”

Three points against London City Lionesses would make a massive difference for Leicester City going into the Christmas break but Passmoor wants his side to focus on the game plan and principles.

He said “You look to see if we are playing to the game plan and the principles – can we look forward and go into the break with a good performance? If you tick off the game plan and how we want to play, then the outcome will be achieved.”

London City Lionesses have eased into life in the Barclays Women’s Super League and Passmoor has been impressed by the project at Hayes Lane.

He said “They need a massive pat on the back. If you come up from WSL2, you need to implement a plan to be sustainable but also invest in terms of the players. They have recruited extensively from across the world, so they have a different model; it’s very similar to Michele’s [Kang] other clubs that she holds in the United States and France It’s unique.

“They’ve got a good style of play. They’ve come up and normally, teams bounce back but this season, that won’t be the case.”

Leicester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against London City Lionesses kicks-off at 11.55am. Tickets will be available to purchase at The King Power Stadium right up until kick-off.
