Manchester City’s on-loan forward Jack Grealish took to social media after leading Everton to a 3-2 win over Wolves at the weekend.

Grealish has joined Everton on loan for the 2025-26 campaign after making just seven Premier League starts for Manchester City last term, looking to force his way into Thomas Tuchel’s thinking ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 29-year-old joined Manchester City from Aston Villa for a then British-record £100 million fee, winning two Premier League titles as well as the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and FA Cup titles at the Etihad Stadium.

However, Grealish has not played enough minutes since his starring 2022-23 season, when he was indispensable to Guardiola and started each of Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League knockout games en route to their maiden title win in Istanbul.

With two years left on his current Manchester City contract, officials at the Etihad Stadium are understood to have informed Grealish he was free to leave permanently – despite the former Aston Villa captain continuing to be a popular figure behind the scenes.

However, Grealish’s astronomical wages have meant that most suitor clubs – including Everton – could only shoulder a part of his salary, with the Toffees covering three-fourths of the England international’s £300,000-per-week wages.

Everton retain a £50 million buy option in the season-long loan deal, which could see Grealish move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on a permanent basis next summer, having made a blistering start to life in Merseyside.

Having provided a pair of assists on his full debut for David Moyes’ side in a 2-0 win over Brighton last week, Grealish was on fire again at the weekend as the forward set up another two goals in a narrow 3-2 win for Everton away at Wolves.

With a quick start to life in Everton colours, Grealish has been given a new lease of life by Moyes and the on-loan attacker has not been shy in sending a message to his parent club, sharing a screenshot of a Google search of when was the last time he had started three straight games.

The Birmingham-born attacker added a caption to the screenshot posted on and since deleted from his Instagram story, writing: “Feels so good to finally play three games in a row,” which can be interpreted as a reminder to Guardiola of his rotation policy.

Equally, it has to be said that Grealish was rewarded for his heroics on the pitch with regular starts and Guardiola’s trust for a large part of the treble-winning campaign – with the Englishman since falling below his own standards.

It is highly unlikely that Grealish will ever play for Manchester City again and it was even before a loan to Everton had materialised that the former Aston Villa captain was reported to have accepted that his career at the Etihad Stadium was effectively over.
