Jadon Sancho has received a reality check from the Manchester United squad following his loan move to Aston Villa on transfer deadline day.
The English forward has been a peripheral figure at Old Trafford in the past couple of years since joining the Red Devils in the summer of 2021 from Borussia Dortmund.
Arriving as one of the finest young talents in the world, the player was expected to take the Premier League by storm.
Unfortunately, he failed to live up to expectations with the English giants with a series of underwhelming performances.
Sancho eventually dropped down the pecking order under former manager Erik ten Hag due to disciplinary issues.
The Englishman was sent back on loan to Borussia Dortmund in January 2024, but endured a disappointing second coming at the Signal Iduna Park.
Sancho moved to Chelsea last summer on a season-long loan. The Blues had an obligation to buy him permanently this summer, but paid a £5 million fee to nullify that clause.
Sancho turned down multiple offers to leave Old Trafford this summer, before Aston Villa came calling on deadline day.
United sanctioned the move, with the Birmingham club reportedly agreeing to cover 80% of the player’s wages.
Sancho joined hands with Villa’s Instagram page and the Premier League to announce his move to Villa Park.
However, the collaboration drew a blank from United players, none of whom commented on the post. There were no reactions on the post from Bruno Fernandes and Co. either, suggesting that the players have long moved on from the 25 year old.
The episode also justified INEOS and Ruben Amorim’s decision to let Sancho go.
Marcus Rashford also made the journey to Villa Park in January this year after falling out of favour under Amorim, spending the second half of last season on loan with the Villans.
The 27-year-old forward returned to Old Trafford this summer but again left United to join Barcelona on a season-long loan.
Sancho shares a close bond with Rashford and reportedly consulted his countryman before moving to the Midlands.
The former Borussia Dortmund forward registered five goals and 10 assists from 41 games across competitions for Chelsea last season. His contract with United expires in 2026.
