Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic has praised Sunderland’s recent recruitment, saying he is using it as a guiding principle as he prepares the newly promoted Tigers for the Premier League.
Less than a year after beating Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final, Sunderland embarked on an ambitious window. Record buys Enzo Le Fee and Habib Diarra arrived, alongside Robin Roefs, Brian Brobbey, winger Chemsdine Talbi and captain Granit Xhaka.
Regis Le Bris’ side went on to secure a Europa League place, capping one of the club’s standout recent seasons.
Hull followed suit last month with a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough in the Championship play-off final and now look to strengthen. Both clubs are being linked with Charleroi midfielder Yacine Titraoui, with Marseille also believed to be interested.
“Sunderland are my guiding principle; the club have done an excellent job of identifying, so to speak, cheaper but very good players, mainly in Belgium and France. If we were to get 120m for reinforcements, that’s a dream. I don’t believe we’ll have that much money available, but we’ll see. Basically, there are no more bans, we can pay transfer fees. We have a very good sporting director, Jared Dublin, who was a scout before and knows players inside out.”
He told Sportske Novosti.
Hull return to the top flight after a 10-year absence, and this summer’s window will be key to their plans.
