Tammer Bany could end up playing a vital to role to a potential promotion push next season given James Morrison’s recent praise.
West Brom will be making early preparations for a fifth consecutive Championship season after failing to make the play-offs.
The Baggies were in the driving seat to seal a place inside the top six, but a run of five defeats from their last six league outings condemned Albion to a ninth-placed finish, with the Baggies finishing their final two games of the campaign under interim boss and club icon James Morrison.
It is set to be a summer of change at The Hawthorns, with various first-team figures set to depart the club on the expiry of their contracts, while a new manager still needs appointing and restrictions surrounding Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) remain for owner Shilen Patel to contend with.
The Bilkul ownership have made financial investments where they can despite limited financial resources due to Guochuan Lai’s mismanagement of the club, with the Baggies spending a reported fee of £3.3 million on Bany, along with paying him an estimated £6,500 a week according to Capology.
Despite injury frustration to contend with in the beginning of his Albion stint, Bany has been backed to be a fan favourite at The Hawthorns, with Morrison’s comments offering room for optimism for the West Brom faithful.
As reported by the Express & Star, James Morrison shared former boss Tony Mowbray’s optimistic outlook on Tammer Bany, who has struggled to generate much positive momentum after hamstring and quad injuries in his first few months in a blue and white shirt.
Morrison said: "I've got the same views (as Mowbray). I'm excited to see him get a good pre-season.
“It's always hard coming in during January, he was in the middle of his off-season as well.
"I think he'll have the frustration inside that it didn't go better for him fitness-wise. But he'll be one to watch next year.
"I wouldn't say he's your typical number 10, he's tenacious, runs, tackles from the front. I can't wait to see him."
Albion fans got a very small sample size of what Tammer Bany can bring to the team.
Featuring just four times off the bench and earning a handful of minutes, Bany did notch an assist on his debut by supplying John Swift for their second goal against Oxford United, while the attacker earned over 20-minute cameos against Sunderland and Bristol City.
Particularly at Ashton Gate, Bany looked to buzz about and be a nuisance to opposition defenders all over the pitch. While everything he attempted on the ball didn’t always come off, the playmaker was a constant focal point to give the ball to, and in time, his rustiness on the ball is sure to wear off.
One area Albion desperately lacked last season was an established and creative number 10, with Albion usually opting to create chances from out wide, particularly in Tom Fellows, who supplied 14 assists over the course of the campaign.
The Baggies need an alternative route in attack when play on the flanks breaks down, and Bany could well be the creative spark, with his tenacity and eagerness to make a difference two roaring qualities to have in order to be successful in that position.
This kind of service could really benefit the likes of Daryl Dike and Josh Maja, who are both set to be fit for the beginning of next term. While both possess different attributes, they can be clinical when presented with opportunities, and an extra layer of service from someone like Bany could give the Baggies such a potent forward line.
If the goals begin and keep flowing at the top end of the pitch, then there’s no reason why the Black Country outfit can’t be fighting towards the top end of the table, and their exile from the top-flight could come to an end if this partnership can maintain itself for the majority of the relentless 46-game term.
