Football pundit Jamie Redknapp has broken his silence around his failed attempt at dropping insider ‘information’ around Antoine Semenyo’s future.

With Semenyo firmly established as a Manchester City player following a £62.5 million move from Bournemouth, the attention has turned back to the chaotic final days of the transfer saga that briefly suggested a dramatic late intervention from Liverpool.

At the time, City were widely believed to be finalising paperwork, booking medicals, and preparing the official announcement, while Jamie Redknapp sparked widespread debate after stating live on Sky Sports that there “might be a little bit of a twist”.

The pundit went on to claim that “Liverpool could still be in the equation,” suggesting the deal was not the “foregone conclusion” many believed it to be, on a night when Semenyo scored his dramatic 95th-minute winner for Bournemouth against Tottenham.

Now, opening up on his transfer scoop that proved to be embarrassingly wide of the mark, Jamie Redknapp said this week on Sky Sports, “I’m not going to lie, sometimes you get information from people and you expect better.

“On that occasion, my dad called me and he was at the game at Bournemouth [against Tottenham] when he scored that incredible goal, and he said, ‘I think there might be a twist, he might be going to Liverpool!'”

Redknapp continued, “So I thought, ‘I’m going to say that on air!’ I thought I’d turned into Fabrizio Romano for about five seconds, and got it completely wrong.”

In response to the comments, Romano said on social media platform X, “Respect, Jamie!”

Since completing his move to the North-West of England, Antoine Semenyo has wasted no time justifying Manchester City’s faith and investment, marking his debut in the FA Cup third round with both a goal and an assist in a 10-1 demolition of Exeter at the Etihad Stadium, earning the Player of the Match award in the process.

The Ghanaian international then followed that up with another goal in City’s impressive 0-2 win away to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg, further underlining his rapid adaptation to Pep Guardiola’s system.

For Manchester City supporters, the focus has now shifted entirely away from transfer drama and towards what Antoine Semenyo can deliver on the pitch. With goals already flowing and confidence visibly high, the former Bournemouth forward is quickly becoming one of the most exciting new additions to Pep Guardiola’s squad this season.
