Abdul Fatawu has turned to former Leicester City team-mate Jamie Vardy for guidance before Ghana face England at the World Cup on Tuesday, 23 June, at the Boston Stadium. The Group L contest could help decide who finishes top.
Both sides opened with wins and have the knockout rounds in sight. The 22-year-old winger came on in the second half of Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Panama and will hope for more minutes.
“He’s always speaking about the game, and Vardy is one of the guys who really trusts me. He’s told me to do my thing, and that is why I can’t wait for the opportunity to show everyone what I can do.” He told The Sun.
Fatawu and Vardy formed a close bond at the King Power Stadium before Vardy moved on last summer. This time it could be Fatawu who leaves.
Fatawu is, by some distance, City’s most valuable asset and could be sold after successive relegations. A €45 million (£39m) price tag was reported last summer but that figure has fallen.
As a League One club, City will likely struggle to get any suitors to meet that valuation. Besiktas have been linked with a €15m (£14m) move and RB Leipzig have also been credited with interest.
Ghana finish their group against Croatia on 27 June. Thomas Tuchel’s men end theirs the same day against Panama after beating Croatia 4-2 in their opener.
