Jan Bednarek refused to fuel talk of persuading Robert Lewandowski to join Porto after starting Poland’s 2-2 friendly draw with Nigeria.

Asked on Wednesday whether he would try to convince his compatriot to make the move, the Porto centre-back chose not to respond. Porto president André Villas-Boas has already said Lewandowski is completely beyond the club’s finances. The friendly featured two nations who did not qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Bednarek instead praised Lewandowski for attending the Poland camp despite not being obliged. The veteran has left Barcelona at the end of his contract and his future remains open. He believes the striker’s experience will aid younger players and that they want to play with him for as long as possible.

He described playing alongside Lewandowski as a pleasure and, in his view, the forward is the best in Poland’s history. He also hopes the forward does not end his international career.

Pressed on whether he would try to bring Lewandowski to join him and compatriots Jakub Kiwior and Oskar Pietuszewski at Porto, Bednarek offered no answer.
