Poland head coach Jan Urban says he may call up Oskar Pietuszewski for this month’s 2026 World Cup play-offs, but stressed the 17-year-old Porto winger could just as easily remain with the under-21s.
"In every conversation with journalists, the name Pietuszewski comes up. I understand your job is to ask, but I still cannot say anything," he told sport.pl.
"We are monitoring his progress, as with any other candidate. We may decide it is worth calling him for the play-offs, but it is equally likely he will keep playing with the youth team. As I have said, the situation in football changes quickly."
Pietuszewski has one goal and one assist in seven appearances since leaving Jagiellonia Bialystok for Porto in the winter window.
Urban also discussed Porto’s Polish defensive pair. "Jakub Kiwior and Jan Bednarek have already shown how much daily work together brings benefits. They now understand each other even better, which will help the Poland national team a lot. We do not have an excess of players of that quality."
Poland host Albania in a first play-off on 26 March. The winner then faces Ukraine or Sweden on 31 March for a place in Group F, alongside the Netherlands, Japan and Tunisia.
