Jeglertz: Every game will be a battle

Andrée Jeglertz expects every match between now and the end of the season to be as closely-fought as City’s goalless WSL draw with Aston Villa.

The Blues were held at Villa Park despite a spell of late pressure, but the point moves us nine points clear at the top of the WSL table with five matches remaining.

Second-placed Manchester United and third-placed Chelsea, however, both have a game in hand, while fourth-placed Arsenal leapfrog both if they were to win their two extra matches.

It’s an exciting part of the season, but Jeglertz insists there’ll be no change in his players’ mentality as the final weeks of the campaign come into focus.

Indeed, he feels our draw with Aston Villa has provided an important example of the battling performances that’ll be needed if City are to get over the line.

“We’re still on our way, nothing has changed,” he said after our 0-0 draw at Villa Park.

“We keep pushing every week and making sure we do everything we can to win each game, but we’re also aware this is how it’s going to be in the last five games.

“Every game will be a battle, so we need to show up from the first until the last minute. That’s a big learning.”

Jeglertz also confirmed that Vivianne Miedema’s knock wasn’t a major cause for concern.

The Dutch international went down feeling the back of her left knee after a collision in the first half but was able to shake it off and complete the 90 minutes.

Jeglertz heaped praise on Miedema for her desire to stay on and help her team-mates, and insists that if there is an issue, it’s not a significant one.

He said: “Yeah, she’s [Miedema] fine.

“She’s a player who, you saw in her, she wants to contribute all the time.

“The thing she had is something she had earlier, I don’t think it’s a big thing but the mentality to keep pushing is great.”

City v Spurs: Everything to Play For

We’re back in action at the Joie Stadium on Saturday 21 March, when we welcome Tottenham Hotspur for a 12:00 (UK) kick-off.

City sit top of the WSL table with just six matches remaining, boasting a 100% record on home soil, but that’ll be put to the test against the visitors.

Indeed, Spurs still hold faint hopes of European qualification and have lost just once on the road in 2026, even winning their last away fixture in the WSL 7-3 at Aston Villa.

It all points towards another thrilling clash at the Joie Stadium. Seated tickets are available from just £15 for adults and £6 for Under-16s, with standing tickets on sale for just £13 for adults or £5 for Under-16s.

Don’t miss out as City’s push for the WSL title continues!
