Andrée Jeglertz is confident that Sam Coffey will be available for Sunday's Barclays Women's Super League clash with Liverpool.
However, our Head Coach added that Vivianne Miedema and Sydney Lohmann will be absent from the squad in our 12:00 (UK) kick-off at the Joie Stadium, as well as young midfielder Aemu Oyama.
USA international Coffey missed out in City’s most recent WSL clash away to Brighton, which saw the Blues beaten 3-1.
But Jeglertz confirmed that Coffey had been in full training all week and expects her to be available, provided there are no setbacks in final sessions before Sunday.
“Sam has been training in the last days so I think she will be available for the game on Sunday,” our Head Coach said.
“Let’s see how she responds from today’s training. No changes on the Viv Miedema situation and Sydney is still out also.
“Aemu [Oyama] got a hit on the knee so we’ll have to see how she reacts in the coming days, otherwise it should be a full squad.”
The boss also paid tribute to Laura Coombs, who announced she’ll retire at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
A hugely admired and respected member of the squad, the midfielder has made over 150 appearances in all competitions for City, while only Lauren Hemp has been at the Club longer among our current squad.
As well as being an excellent footballer, Jeglertz also highlighted the impact Coombs makes off the pitch.
He added: “I’ve worked with her now for almost a year and I saw very early that she’s [Coombs] very important for the team.
“She’s always making sure that training is 100% because she’s always present there and making sure that everybody is seen in the group.
“She takes a big role in that and having that personality is crucial for culture in the group.
“She’s had a very big impact in how we’re building this. But the most important thing is that she’s a great footballer.
“I haven’t put her in the back line but I think she can play everywhere because she understands the game well, has great technique and is very adaptable to all different situations.
“She’s a great player but absolutely a great person, first of all.”
