Dutch international was hauled off early on his Premier League debut
Frimpong was taken off just shy of the hour in the Premier League champions’ curtain-raiser against Bournemouth last week, with the Reds coming out 4-2 victors in a rollercoaster affair at Anfield.
Frimpong, a £35million arrival from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, was making his Premier League debut in his new colours before a hamstring injury forced him off in the second half.
Slot revealed that Conor Bradley, the Northern Ireland international, had returned to training following his own injury lay-off.
"Conor [Bradley] trained for a few minutes with us today for the first time,” the Dutch manager said at his pre-match press conference on Thursday.
"The medical team were completely right about Jeremie [Frimpong] to tell me to take him off because he is out until the end of the international break and that happened during the game.
"I think I got criticised for taking him off, didn't I? It had nothing to do with how he played but we felt he had an issue with his hamstring and by we, I mean the medical staff. It was a good call to take him off. We expect to have him back after the international break."
Liverpool take on Newcastle at St James’ Park on Monday night in what could be an interesting evening for Alexander Isak, the Magpies striker, who is currently on-strike from first-team action on Tyneside as he looks to force a move to the Reds.
Liverpool saw a £110million plus add-ons bid turned down by Newcastle for the Swedish striker, who tried to take matters into his own hands on Tuesday evening by releasing a public statement on Instagram, claiming that “promises are broken and trust is lost”, before saying that his “relationship [with Newcastle] can't continue”.
