Looking to capitalise on results elsewhere, Liverpool return to Anfield for Saturday’s Premier League meeting against relegation-battling West Ham United.

The Reds are aware that they must take advantage of Aston Villa’s shocking defeat against basement club Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium.

Liverpool are heading into this fixture sitting six points off third-placed Villa.

A win would reduce the gap to three points and potentially move them into the top four if other results go their way.

Arne Slot’s side have been in decent form over the past couple of weeks, winning five of their last six matches across all competitions.

A narrow 2-1 defeat to Manchester City was the only blemish in that otherwise perfect run, but they responded by picking up consecutive 1-0 wins against Sunderland and Nottingham Forest.

Keen to bolster their chances of qualifying for the Champions League, Liverpool will be determined to extend their winning streak to three league games on the bounce.

Liverpool claimed a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture against West Ham in East London. Completing the double over the Hammers will take them closer to a place in the top four.

However, the Reds must be wary of the threat West Ham pose, particularly with the Hammers building momentum in a desperate attempt to avoid relegation.

How Liverpool could line up

It wouldn’t be surprising if Slot doesn’t feel the need to tweak a winning formula, with Liverpool heading into this contest on the back of a three-match winning streak.

However, a timely injury boost could force the Dutchman into a single change as his countryman Jeremie Frimpong returns to the XI.

The injury-prone right-back, who joined Liverpool in a £29.5 million deal, will likely relieve Dominik Szoboszlai of his makeshift role, pushing him higher up the pitch.

Frimpong, who is just returning from a month-long injury lay-off, will likely join Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Milos Kerkez in protecting Alisson’s goal.

Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister should anchor the midfield while Szoboszlai is flanked by misfiring wingers Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo.

With Alexander Isak still sidelined, Hugo Ekitike will continue leading the line.
