Jermain Defoe has been appointed Woking manager, PA reports. The National League club have also named Paul Bracewell as his assistant.
Interim bosses Craig Ross and Jake Hyde will remain on the backroom staff alongside Dale Gorman.
Ross and Hyde will take charge of Tuesday’s home league game against Altrincham.
“Woking is a historic club with huge potential, and I’m thrilled to be part of this exciting project. I can’t wait to get started.”
Chairman Todd Johnson praised Defoe’s playing pedigree and highlighted his game understanding, standards, leadership and focus on player development, adding that the club have a clear plan and believe he is the right person to build on strong foundations in the next phase of their journey.
Defoe had recently been linked with a possible return to Tottenham. He has coached in Tottenham’s academy and worked in a four-man caretaker team at Rangers in 2021. As a player he featured for West Ham, Portsmouth and Sunderland, and scored 20 goals in 57 England appearances.
