Jesse Marsch has confirmed he will continue as Canada head coach for four more years beyond this summer’s home World Cup.

He said in an Instagram post that he was extending his stay, expressing love for the squad, belief in their potential at the World Cup and beyond, and stressing the need for work from grassroots to the professional game. He added that he wants to unite the programme, make it stronger and help the next generation chase World Cup dreams.

The finals are being staged in USA, Mexico and Canada, with Canada drawn alongside Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar and Switzerland.

Since taking charge in May 2024, Marsch has overseen 12 wins, 12 draws and five defeats. They finished fourth at the 2024 Copa America, losing to Argentina in the semi-final then to Uruguay on penalties in the third-place match.

Marsch replaced Marcelo Bielsa in February 2022 at Leeds United, keeping them in the Premier League that season. He was dismissed in early February 2023 after a poor run and fan dissatisfaction, and the club were relegated despite Javi Gracia and Sam Allardyce later taking charge. He has since maintained they could have stayed up had he remained, citing underlying numbers that pointed to a midtable side.
