Jhon Arias's move to Palmeiras in early 2026 has paid off, giving him the minutes and influence he needed to protect his Colombia place for the World Cup.
According to Nosso Palestra, the winger left Wolverhampton after a turbulent spell, with the team struggling and his game time limited, and with the World Cup on the horizon. Palmeiras, who had tracked him for months, stepped in to bring him back to Brazil.
The deal was not straightforward. Arias had a strong bond with Fluminense, where he enjoyed his best period in Brazil before moving to England, but Palmeiras' sporting project ultimately won out.
At Palmeiras he quickly became a starter and a central figure in the season, producing consistent performances and decisive goals.
He arrived at the 2026 World Cup as a Colombia starter and scored against Ghana in the round of 32, in a match that secured Colombia's progression. Arias became the fourth foreign Palmeiras player to score at a World Cup, and, alongside Mauricio, ensured it was the first time two different Palmeiras players had scored in the same edition.
