Joe Gelhardt looks increasingly likely to leave Leeds United this summer, although his destination remains unclear.

Hull Live reports that mutual interest persists in a permanent move, with any deal viewed as possible later in the window rather than early. Separately, Alan Nixon reports that Gelhardt is due a pay rise at Elland Road in the final year of his contract, which could make matching terms a significant outlay for Hull. The same report adds that the Tigers could consider cheaper alternatives and that competition for the forward is expected to be stronger than last year.

The 24-year-old spent 18 months on loan at Hull across two spells, joining for the second half of 2024/25 before returning for 2025/26. He delivered 15 goals and four assists last season and indicated throughout he would be open to a permanent switch. His output might have been higher but for a two-month injury lay-off.

Hull finished sixth in the Championship, edged into the play-offs and then won them, beating Middlesbrough 1-0 at Wembley.

Where Gelhardt goes next remains to be seen, but it feels more likely than not he will depart Leeds. He had no role in Daniel Farke’s attacking group last season, and that area is set to be bolstered, with imminent free-agent arrival Harry Wilson operating in similar positions.

Leeds wanted between £3-4 million for Gelhardt last summer before loaning him to Hull, who were under an embargo that prevented any fee. That decision may now work in Leeds’ favour, with his valuation likely to have risen.
