Joe Gomez has refused to be drawn on his long-term Liverpool future, admitting uncertainty as he enters the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield.

Under Arne Slot—who recently hailed him as ‘outstanding’—Gomez has continued to be a reliable option across the backline for the Reds this season, capable of playing both centre-back and right-back.

That versatility remains one of his most valued attributes, but it has also, at times, worked against him in securing an undisputed first-team role.

He spoke candidly about his situation but gave no clear indication as to whether he intends to sign a new deal or move on when his current terms expire.

“I think anything can happen,” Gomez said when asked about his future.

“I don’t know is the honest answer. I’ve only got a year left, so I don’t know, but whatever is meant to be will be, I guess. But I’m so grateful to have had this time here at this club.

“I’ll always be grateful to have had 11 years at a place like this. All I can do is be thankful, and we’ll see.”

His comments are likely to intensify speculation surrounding the 27-year-old’s future, with clubs across Europe monitoring players entering the final year of their deals.

Gomez’s situation is of particular interest given his experience—he has won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup during his time at Anfield, establishing himself as one of the most decorated defenders in Liverpool’s history.

His career has not been without setbacks, however. Serious knee and ankle injuries have cost him significant stretches of football at crucial moments, while competition for places has often limited his opportunities to secure a regular starting berth under successive managers.

Whether Liverpool will offer him fresh terms remains to be seen. For now, the defender appears content to let events unfold, his words carrying the quiet acceptance of a player at peace with his circumstances, whatever they may ultimately bring.
