Joel Veltman is expected to be in contention for a Brighton return when Everton visit the Amex, a year after a handball penalty he conceded settled last season’s meeting.
According to TheArgus.co.uk, the Dutch right-back was left on the bench in Saturday’s defeat at Fulham, having started four of the previous five matches before the trip to Craven Cottage.
At Craven Cottage, Ferdi Kadioglu switched to right-back to counter the pace of Kevin, while Olivier Boscagli lined up on the left against Harry Wilson.
Fabian Hurzeler said the call was primarily tactical, though Veltman had a minor knee issue during the week. He praised Veltman’s work and professionalism, and stressed his value as a team player.
Veltman also sat out the recent draw at Manchester City during a busy three-game week, when Jack Hinshelwood covered at right-back.
Mats Wieffer, who has appeared Hurzeler’s preferred option at right-back with midfield flexibility, has been sidelined in recent weeks by a toe injury. Centre-back Diego Coppola was again unused at Fulham, and his immediate future remains one of the few talking points as the window enters its final week. Coppola wants more minutes, but Albion remain content with their defensive options for the run-in.
