The Owls’ issues are well-documented this summer, with owner Dejphon Chansiri having failed to pay wages on time in the past few months, which has brought sanctions from the EFL.

As a result, boss Danny Rohl has left the club, and a host of players have moved on from Hillsborough, with several cancelling their contracts after they weren’t paid on time.

So, the situation is bleak, but Textor confirming that he does have an interest in the club does at least offer some reason for hope, even if the American businessman has a mixed record in the game.

Nevertheless, moving on from Chansiri is the only aim for Wednesday right now, and here we look at THREE issues Textor would inherit at the Yorkshire outfit that he must solve immediately…

Improve the squad

This is an obvious one, but the Wednesday squad is really low on numbers and quality right now, and it needs to be addressed.

There is a reason that they are firm favourites for relegation, and it’s hard to see how this group survives the Championship as it stands.

Whether Textor could realistically take over before the summer deadline is unclear, but, whether it’s free agents outside the window, or a January spree, it’s clear that Wednesday need major reinforcements if they are to stay in the Championship.

Going down to League One wouldn’t be a disaster under a new regime, but a lot of work will be required to ensure that doesn’t happen.

Sort the North Stand issue at Hillsborough

Amid all the financial issues that are impacting Sheffield Wednesday right now, it may have gone under the radar somewhat that the club has major issues with Hillsborough.

The North Stand of the iconic venue is said to have structural and electrical faults, which has presented the club with another problem.

So, if Textor was to take over, he would need to improve the North Stand as soon as possible to get it opened again, and many fans would argue that Hillsborough as a whole needs modernising. Whilst that may not be as pressing, enhancing the stadium, and the overall matchday experience, would have to be a priority.

Get the supporters on side

Finally, Textor would need to change the mood around the club.

The fans are understandably negative about their club right now, and they’re tired of the constant mismanagement by Chansiri that has left them worrying about the very future of Wednesday.

Textor would become a popular figure just by replacing the Thai businessman, but he would then need a plan to keep Wednesday fans excited and invigorated.

They are key to the club, but once supporters turn away, it can be hard to get them back. However, a fresh start, with some new signings and messages that offer hope for the future could see Hillsborough rocking again, and that energy will be crucial to helping Wednesday kick-on.
