Jordan Henderson has been named in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for next month's World Cup in America, making him the first Englishman to reach seven major tournaments. According to Hounslow Herald, the 35-year-old Brentford midfielder is valued for leadership even if his playing time could be limited.
The 89-cap veteran returned to the Premier League last summer and has re-established himself in Tuchel’s camps. Adam Wharton is omitted despite a standout Crystal Palace season and a passing profile the squad is said to lack.
Former Brentford striker Ivan Toney is also recalled. The 30-year-old has seven caps and last played for England in June 2025. He has scored 42 goals for Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, though the standard is questioned, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin overlooked despite 14 Premier League goals.
Toney is likely third choice behind captain Harry Kane and in-form Ollie Watkins, and his penalty record could prove valuable from the bench.
Elsewhere, Harry Maguire was left out and said he was "shocked and gutted". Cole Palmer and Phil Foden also miss out after disappointing club seasons, with Tuchel reportedly unsure about Palmer’s suitability for a seven-week camp.
Morgan Gibbs-White is absent, and Trent Alexander-Arnold remains out, with Djed Spence preferred at right-back after Tuchel said he does not trust the Real Madrid man defensively. Kobbie Mainoo is selected ahead of Wharton and James Garner, while No 10 roles go to Jude Bellingham, Morgan Rogers and Eberechi Eze.
