Jordan Henderson (34) saw the captain’s armband taken away from him on Thursday night as Ajax faced Galatasaray in the UEFA Europa League, as highlighted by Fabrizio Romano. The former Liverpool midfielder is in discussions over a move to Monaco in the final days of the January transfer window.

Henderson has given his green light to move to the Côte d’Azur and join Les Monégasques. Despite his willingness to move to Ligue 1, the former England international has not seen his club greet the interest with the same level of sincerity.  The speculation around his future at the Johan Cruyff Arena saw him lose the captaincy for the match against the Turkish Super League club.

It is not known if the 34-year-old has been punished by Ajax or the reason he has seen the captaincy removed. Monaco remain in negotiations with the Dutch club to sign the former Sunderland midfielder before the end of the transfer window. L’Équipe reports the Principality club are confident of signing Henderson.
