Jorge Jesus reveals self-funded VHS analysis from Amora days

Jorge Jesus has outlined a self-funded analysis method from his Amora days, paying a local videographer to record matches on VHS to aid preparation.

According to Record, the former Benfica manager said he has always prized detail and direct observation, and while it is no longer necessary to go to a stadium to study a future opponent, he still likes to when possible.

He recalled realising that families with greater means were hiring photographers and video services for weddings and christenings, usually producing VHS cassettes, which sparked the idea of using the same approach for football.

Jesus said he found someone already doing that work and hired him to film Amora’s games. He paid out of his own pocket because the club had no budget for it.

The process was rudimentary but effective. He would watch and rewatch the tapes, select the minutes to show players, then fast-forward to the next relevant image, with no editing involved.
