Jorginho has returned to training and could bolster Flamengo’s midfield against Vitória in the Copa do Brasil on Wednesday at the Maracanã.
According to Globo.com, the midfielder has recovered from a left calf injury and worked with the group at Ninho do Urubu on Monday. He is likely to be available to Leonardo Jardim for the first leg of the fifth round at 21:30 Brasília time, though the head coach will decide whether to include him.
He sustained the problem in the win over Santos on 5 April. With only 15 days out, his return should be straightforward.
Jardim said after beating Bahia that Jorginho would not need many sessions to be ready. By contrast, Saúl returned on Sunday after four months sidelined and will have his minutes managed.
The boost is timely. Lucas Paquetá, who had been deputising for Jorginho, has swelling in his left thigh following the Bahia match and will be sidelined for between one week and 10 days, missing Vitória and Atlético-MG.
The coaching staff plan to have Paquetá available against Estudiantes on 29 April, or, at the latest, for the derby with Vasco on 3 May.
