Corinthians dismissed head coach Dorival Júnior on Sunday night after a 1-0 home defeat by Internacional, their ninth game without a win. The match at Neo Química Arena was part of the 10th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
Former Corinthians midfielder José Martínez reacted on Instagram in an ironic tone, blaming Dorival for his own departure and adding that the truth would soon emerge, while invoking God. The player said in a post that the coach was responsible for him leaving.
Martínez’s contract was rescinded in early March after a one-month delay to his return to Brazil, which he attributed to passport renewal issues in Venezuela. When he finally reported to CT Joaquim Grava, he had an anterior cruciate ligament injury that required surgery and ruled him out for the rest of the season.
During his holiday, images circulated of the Venezuelan playing in a festive match in his homeland with a brace on his left knee, and other clips showed him limping. The episode and the delay in his reappearance caused unease for both Dorival and the club’s hierarchy.
Martínez joined in August 2024 from Philadelphia Union for two million dollars, approximately R$ 10.9 million at the time, and Corinthians were later punished by Fifa for late payment. He made 70 appearances, scored two goals and provided two assists, and was part of the squads that won the Paulistão and the Copa do Brasil in 2025.
