According to ExpressAndStar.com, Albion goalkeeper Josh Griffiths is closing in on a move to Stoke City, set to end almost 15 years with the Baggies as boss James Morrison continues a goalkeeping reshuffle.

Stoke have pursued the Hereford-born keeper this summer to add cover and competition for first-choice Viktor Johansson, who is at the World Cup with Sweden. The Potters’ goalkeeper coach Darren Behcet has recommended Griffiths.

Albion agreed a new three-year contract with January arrival and Republic of Ireland international Max O'Leary last month, and with Griffiths set to depart there will be further recruitment in goal. Griffiths has a year left on the deal he signed in 2024.

He began last season as first choice but, despite some strong displays, was dropped by former boss Ryan Mason in December after errors. Griffiths regained the shirt from Joe Wildsmith the following month, before the club moved to strengthen the position with O'Leary.

Griffiths has made 45 first-team appearances for Albion, and almost 200 senior outings including loans at Cheltenham, Lincoln, Portsmouth and Bristol Rovers.

Albion, who return to training on Thursday, also let Wildsmith leave The Hawthorns on a free transfer this summer. Youth prospects Joe Wallis, 21, and Ben Cisse, 20, are well regarded by staff.

Stoke, now led by former Coventry boss Mark Robins, finished 17th last season, four places and four points above Albion.
