Former Ukraine head coach József Szabó has criticised Benfica player Georgiy Sudakov, questioning whether he fits at the highest level.

"They are not really suited to Europe’s top teams. They struggle and their skill level is not enough for the challenge," he told Channel 24.

In Sudakov’s case, Benfica’s number 10 has lost ground in the side, particularly after the arrival of Rafa and due to physical issues, including lower back pain.

Across recent fixtures he was unused in two matches and came off the bench in the previous three, a spell that has coincided with reduced form.

"They can play one or a few games, but they cannot keep the same intensity over a whole season. That is why coaches leave them on the bench."

Szabó also said both Sudakov and Zabarnyi find it difficult to compete at the highest level.

This season Sudakov, valued at 30 million euros, has played 33 times for Benfica, 18 in Liga Portugal Betclic, nine in the Champions League, three in the Taça de Portugal and two in the Taça da Liga.

He has totalled 2,268 minutes, scoring four goals and providing five assists.
