Juan Sartori shared a heartfelt message after Sunderland clinched a historic Europa League place by beating Chelsea at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland Echo reports. It marked the club’s first European qualification in two generations.
Régis Le Bris’ side finished seventh in the Premier League just one year after promotion through the Championship play-offs, completing a rise from League One to Europe in four years.
There were emotional scenes at full time as players, staff, supporters and members of the ownership celebrated. Sartori, a prominent figure alongside Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, posted a family photo from the pitch and said it was one of the best moments of his life, adding that Sunderland are in the Europa League.
The post reflected the mood at the top of the club after a dramatic rebuild. The ownership invested heavily last summer and their ambition has been rewarded with one of the Premier League era’s most unexpected European qualifications.
Sunderland have qualified for Europe for the first time since 1973-74, ending a 53-year wait for continental football. They also recorded only their fifth top-flight top-10 finish in 70 years.
