Manchester United lacked a leader capable of taking the game by the scruff of the neck against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Casemiro and Matheus Cunha were arguably United’s most experienced players at Old Trafford. However, the Brazilian duo were uninspiring, to say the least, as the Red Devils dropped two points to the 20th-placed side.  

Over the last few years, United have consistently counted on their skipper Bruno Fernandes. However, the ageing Portuguese is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford.

Manchester United keen on Jude Bellingham

According to Fichajes, Manchester United are looking to sign a “leader” to build their project around. Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham fits that brief perfectly. 

The England international has been in the limelight since making his senior debut for Birmingham City. At 16, he became their youngest ever first-team player before moving to Borussia Dortmund in a big-money move.

In Germany, the dynamic midfielder, who is known for his physicality, ball-carrying and ferocious striking, swiftly established himself as Dortmund’s talisman. 

In his maiden season at Real, Bellingham played an instrumental role in their Champions League triumph in 2024. He ended the campaign with 23 goals and 13 assists across all competitions. The following term, he was directly involved in 30 goals. 

However, Xabi Alonso’s arrival in the Spanish capital has had an impact on Bellingham’s performance.

Man United ready to break the bank for Bellingham

The Spanish outlet claim Bellingham is dealing with dressing room friction and uncertainty about his role under head coach Alonso, raising question marks over his future at Santiago Bernabeu.

It is understood United are prepared to make a club-record offer of around €150 million to sign the 22-year-old midfield wizard.

Bellingham would reportedly welcome a switch to the Premier League if he is offered a compelling project.

Further, it is believed that Real would find it hard to refuse such an offer for the Englishman, as they intend to make a number of signings for Alonso in the coming months.
