Manchester United’s priority heading into the summer market is to improve their midfield options, with current players set to leave and an upgrade in quality required. Casemiro is currently playing his last handful of games for the club, with Uruguayan international Manuel Ugarte likely to follow his fellow South American out the door at the end of the season.
United were in need of additional quality even with the aforementioned players in the squad, so adding numbers to the engine room is now even more imperative.
INEOS will no doubt have their list of potential targets, but a former United star has thrown a blockbuster name into the mix. As reported by the Metro, Louis Saha has named Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham as the “dream” signing that would transform United’s midfield.
“My dream summer signing for Manchester United would be Jude Bellingham, he has everything, I’d absolutely love to see it. His athleticism is, I think, the best in the world. He’s able to play in many roles, including number 8 or number 10,” he said.
Saha continued his praise of the England man and described him as the perfect player for United, claiming he would take the Premier League by storm should he decide to return to his home country.
“He has a sense of leadership, he’d definitely be a leader, a bit like Bruno Fernandes in some ways. He’s definitely in that bracket of world-class players.
All these qualities would be amazing for United, and I think he’d love to return to England and play in the Premier League. So, it would be a dream,” said Saha.
However, the Frenchman admitted that the move is a “crazy idea”, with the likelihood of Bellingham swapping Madrid for Manchester highly unlikely at this stage of his career.
Even the most fanciful of United fans will be hard pushed to imagine Bellingham as a viable signing in the summer, and Saha did have positive words for a couple of Premier League stars who are much more realistic targets.
“Obviously, players like Bruno Guimaraes or Sandro Tonali are maybe more reachable and definitely able to do a great job for us. They also have leadership and aggressiveness, but are they able to play many roles and score goals as well? But United have found a kind of balance, and those players would improve it,” he stated.
The Newcastle duo are definitely on the shortlist of targets in the window, as INEOS attempt to arm the head coach with tools for a title challenge, whoever that might be. Qualifying for the Champions League will be a major boost for United’s summer plans, given the financial reward for competing at Europe’s top table.
Carrick and his men have seven games to ensure they finish in the top four of the Premier League and are currently red hot favourites to do so, given their third place position as things stand.
United return to action on 13 April with the hotly anticipated visit of old rivals Leeds United to Old Trafford in a game that could have huge implications for both teams, with Daniel Farke’s men desperate for points to stay in the division.
