The last four of Julian Brandt's six goals this season were all opening goals. No other player in the league has scored more opening goals this season – not even Harry Kane! A total of 25 of his 76 Bundesliga goals have been the first goal of the game – impressive! What's more, the 29-year-old has already scored more goals than he did in the whole of last season (five goals). Only once has he had more goals to his name after 21 matchdays: in the 2022/23 season, he had already scored seven goals.

However, his headed goals are a rarity. His 76th Bundesliga goal was only the third he has scored with his head, and also the first for BVB, where the 29-year-old has been playing since 2019. “I've scored a couple, but unfortunately not in black and yellow,” he said in an interview with BVB-TV, adding jokingly: “I don't know, maybe I'm being played in the wrong position...” His two previous headed goals were in 2016 (against Darmstadt) and 2018 (against Frankfurt), both while playing for Bayer Leverkusen.

Brandt has close ties to Wolfsburg. From 2011 to 2013, he played in the VfL youth team, but he doesn't show any ‘consideration’ for them now. In his Bundesliga career, he has already been involved in 15 goals against the Wolves (five goals, ten direct or indirect assists).
