An insight into the plans of the board at La Liga giants Barcelona to replace Robert Lewandowski in the summer of 2026 has on Sunday been forthcoming online.

The name of frontman Lewandowski has of course dominated the headlines in Catalunya’s capital across the day to date.

This comes after word was forthcoming that a definitive decision has been made regarding the future of the Pole beyond next summer.

As confirmed by Diario Sport, amongst others, Lewandowski will be allowed to leave on a free transfer upon the expiration of his contract at the end of the season.

As much will leave a considerable hole in Hansi Flick’s frontline.

The assumption, in turn, is that the Barcelona brass will seek out reinforcements up top with a view to the 2026/27 campaign.

And as alluded to above, on Sunday, an insight into the leading candidate to make the move to Catalunya’s capital has been provided.

As per Sport:

‘Lewandowski’s replacement, more than Julián Alvarez or any other established player, points more to a profile like that of Etta Eyong, from Levante, to compete with Ferran Torres.’
