Manchester United teenager Kai Rooney revealed he’ll be out of action for the season after suffering an injury.

The 16-year-old is the son of legendary Man Utd and England striker Wayne Rooney, and has been climbing his way up the ranks.

While he hasn’t reached his father’s incredible heights at his age, he is considered among the most promising youngsters in the club’s academy.

Kai Rooney will be on the sidelines for the rest of the season

On Thursday morning, Rooney announced on social media that he has sustained an injury that will keep him out of action until the end of the season.

“Disappointed to be out for the rest of the season. Back stronger next pre-season,” reads the story by the teenager on Instagram.

While the nature of the injury remains uncertain, Man Utd fans will be hoping it won’t derail the promising winger’s development.

Prior to his knock, the youngster was making important strides. Rooney’s exploits earned him a scholarship deal with Man Utd. The player is still too young to sign a professional contract, but the club has reportedly prepared a three-year deal for him, which he’ll sign when he becomes eligible.

Rooney enjoyed a super Saturday last weekend

Last Saturday, Kai Rooney had an afternoon to remember. His day began with an appearance for Man Utd U16’s side. While he only featured for 45 minutes, he had enough time to score a brace and provide his teammates with two assists.

During the same afternoon, the winger moved from the U16 to the U18 team coached by Darren Fletcher, who was also playing at Carrington.

Rooney took the field in the second half, and shortly afterwards, he was able to double the young Red Devils’ advantage over Blackburn Rovers. He made a clever turn before beating the goalkeeper with a low drive from the edge of the box. JJ Gabriel and Co. went on to secure a 3-0 victory, with Michael Carrick watching on the sidelines.

Sadly, this five G/A contribution proved to be Rooney’s last act of the season, but his immense talent suggests there will be much more to come once he overcomes his injury ordeal.
