Inter Milan were lacklustre defensively in Saturday’s 4-3 Derby d’Italia loss against Juventus. Yann Sommer and Manuel Akanji have attracted criticism from the press for their performances.
The Corriere dello Sport were scathing in their assessment, writing “six goals conceded in just three games is a wake-up call Inter cannot ignore.”
The four goals conceded against Juventus add to the two shipped against Udinese for the Nerazzurri’s worst start to a campaign in 14 years.
Whilst the outlet note that there is a “cumulative responsibility” for the defeat, they highlighted two particular points of concern.

Firstly, the Corriere argued that goalkeeper Yann Sommer was at fault for three of the four goals conceded.
The paper slammed the Swiss international as “slow to react” for the long-range efforts from Kenan Yildiz and Vasilije Adzic.
The reports even suggest that Sommer could find his starting spot under pressure from back-up goalkeeper Josep Martinez.
The Corriere also criticised new signing Manuel Akanji, for an error in Lloyd Kelly’s opener for the Bianconeri.
