Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho is attracting interest from Italy, where Serie A giants Juventus are sniffing around the player.
According to Gianluca DiMarzio, ‘Juventus had contact with Manchester United to sign winger Sancho and talks with the player are scheduled.’
Sancho is surplus to requirements at United, and the club wants to sell him this summer after he spent the season out on loan with Chelsea.
The Blues refused to sign him permanently, despite manager Enzo Maresca hailing him as a special player, due to his high wages, forcing him to return to Old Trafford.
He has been looking for a new stomping ground. Fenerbahce and Serie A champions Napoli were interested in his services.
Sancho also had suitors in Germany, like Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen, but it appears Juventus are making the most effort to sign the England international.
The United attacker did not particularly light up Stamford Bridge with his displays, but he still managed five goals and 10 assists in 42 appearances.
Juventus will believe he can regain his best form in the much-slower (tactical) Italian top flight after his struggles in the notoriously fast-paced Premier League.
His main weakness is his lack of straight-line speed, but he could benefit from playing in Serie A, where the focus on tactics and coordinated movement means actions are slower.
Sancho might have been an excellent fit for the inside forward position in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 set-up.
Unfortunately, the Portuguese tactician did not give him a shot.
United will hope they can recover a chunk of the £73 million fee they paid to sign him from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021.
The player will be eager for a permanent move away after successive seasons out on loan.
He must be desperate for some stability. That might be the key to restarting his career.
