Manchester City’s reported interest in Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso has sparked a response from senior staff within the Italian giants.

Claims from Italy had circulated throughout last week that Manchester City officials had identified the 24-year-old defender as their next priority in the market upon completing a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush.

Some went as far as to suggest that an official offer from the Etihad Stadium was in the works and could reach the heights of a figure in excess of €60 million, while other reports indicated positive talks with the player’s side and a five-year contract being prepared in England.

However, sources at Manchester City somewhat shutdown the possibility of a January move almost immediately, suggesting that while there is indeed interest in the player, it may be a deal that is more likely to be explored in the summer market.

Speaking over the course of the weekend, Juventus’ sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has issued a public comment on City’s interest in Andrea Cambiaso, which has been widely reported in both English and Italian media.

“We’ve not received any official bid yet,” Giuntoli insisted. He continued, “If it arrives, we will decide what to do… We’re focusing on new signings more than on exits for this window.”

Those comments followed a public address from Juventus’ head coach Thiago Motta, who spoke ahead of his side’s Serie A meeting with AC Milan, in which they emerged 2-0 victors on Saturday evening.

Motta said during his pre-match press conference last week, “I see him (Andrea Cambiaso) very well and he will play (against AC Milan). I don’t like talking about the transfer market… Andrea is very well; he will be on the pitch tomorrow. That’s for sure.”

When asked whether the Manchester City target was deemed ‘untransferable’ within the Allianz Stadium, Motta responded clearly, “Yes, I already have asked for players not to be sold. And they kept them.”
