Former footballer David Trezeguet, who currently works on the board of River Plate, has urged Juventus to attempt to sign FC Barcelona veteran Robert Lewandowski for next season if the opportunity arises.

The 37-year-old striker is in the final few months of his contract at the Catalan club, and so far, there has been no decision made over his future, with the Poland captain not in a hurry.

Barcelona presidential hopeful Joan Laporta, for his part, is open to extending Lewandowski’s contract for an additional season.

Juventus told to sign Lewandowski

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t SPORT), Trezeguet made it clear that Juventus should consider making a move for Lewandowski in the summer transfer window.

The Bianconeri could be in the market for a new striker, considering that Dusan Vlahovic is out of contract at the end of the season and is attracting interest from many clubs, including Barcelona.

“I’m not going to get into whether Juve should renew Vlahovic’s contract or not, I’m focused on River Plate. I would sign Lewandowski for free, even at 37: he’s in a league of his own, one of the last nine true players alongside Haaland,” said Trezeguet.

Trezeguet acknowledged that Lewandowski may no longer possess the same physical condition he had in his prime, but he insisted that the striker still guarantees a significant number of goals.

“Lewandowski may no longer have the physique he once had, but despite not playing regularly, he scored 14 goals for Barcelona: he is strong and intelligent,” he said.

“Lewandowski would arrive at Juve knowing where he is coming from and what is expected of him: goals. If the opportunity arose, I would take him to Turin myself.”

Trezeguet also commented on the situation of Vlahovic, who has recently been linked with Barcelona. The former French striker admitted that he expected much more from the Serbian forward during his time in Turin.

“I also expected more from Vlahovic. He got injured this year, but he’s in his fifth season in Turin and we’re still not sure if he’s really a Juve player. I was super optimistic about Dusan when he arrived from Fiorentina,” he said.

“Partly because he’s Serbian and reminded me of Kovacevic, a real beast on the pitch. And partly because Vlahovic is fast, physical, technically gifted and scored a lot of goals in Florence. But the Juve shirt is different.

“If people are still talking about Vlahovic as a promising player, something’s wrong,” he concluded.
