Chelsea’s Keira Walsh has promised fans that there is more to come from the Blues this season
Chelsea’s Keira Walsh believes that her team still has plenty to work on this season, despite the Blues maintaining their 100% record after three league games.
The WSL champions are bidding for an improbable seventh league title in a row this year.
Chelsea came out on top 1-0 winners against Leicester in their last game, but the performance left plenty to be desired.
Speaking ahead of her team’s next game this weekend Kiera Walsh promised more from Chelsea.
“It was a difficult game from start to finish,” reflected Walsh. “We would have liked to have a little bit more control than we did, but credit to Leicester. I think they came out, they went man for man, they made it difficult, and it was a really, really tough game.
“Obviously, we won, but we’re probably not happy with the performance. I think there are areas where we can improve, but it’s the same aim as always, playing for Chelsea. We want to win all the trophies, and we want to win in a good style this year. We’ve got to work on that going forward.”
Despite an underwhelming team performance, Walsh was named player of the match as Chelsea grinded out the win.
The 28-year-old has played every minute of the season so far for Chelsea proving as reliable as ever.
“I wasn’t expecting it (Player of the Match). I thought their keeper had an incredible game, to be fair to her, especially in the first half. She made some really good saves. It’s obviously nice to pick it up, but more important to get the win.”
Aggie Beever-Jones was once again the difference maker for Chelsea in their win against Leicester.
The England forward got on the scoresheet early with the game’s only goal marking her third in as many WSL fixtures this season.
In the buildup to Chelsea’s next game Keira Walsh was quick to praise her fellow Lioness and it wasn’t the first time this season.
“Her stats speak for themselves,” she continued. “It’s an incredible ability that she’s got to be so composed, and I think for such a young player, it just comes naturally to her to finish those chances, and luckily for her, she doesn’t feel the pressure too much.”
Chelsea take on West Ham this Sunday in a game that they are expected to dominate.
The Hammers haven’t won yet this season and a hungry Chelsea team will be keen to make a mends for their poor effort against Leicester last week.
