River will delay the debut of Kendry Páez, who will not be in the squad for Saturday’s Torneo Apertura match against Tigre.
After a private conversation with Marcelo Gallardo, it was decided the Ecuadorian will not be named among the call-ups. According to SuperDepor.com, the staff and player have agreed a 10-day physical and technical programme to sharpen him for the pace of Argentine football.
His commitment to the plan was evident on Wednesday at River Camp, where he stayed alone for a second training session after the morning workout while the rest of the first team departed.
The extra work is aimed at having him ready for Tuesday 17 February, a date the club has marked for his official bow in the Copa Argentina.
The decision reflects a desire not to rush the teenager, even with the team seeking creativity after the recent absence of Sebastián Driussi. The approach should give the attacking midfielder time to absorb the “Muñeco” tactical ideas and arrive without the pressure of an immediate, undercooked introduction.
