Manchester City captain Kevin de Bruyne has announced that he will leave the club this summer as a free agent after 10 incredible years with the club.
The 33-year-old won 16 trophies since joining Man City from Wolfsburg in 2015 after a brief spell at Chelsea. Among those were six Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2023.
In a social media post, De Bruyne confirmed his exit: “Dear Manchester, Seeing this, you probably realise where this is heading.
“So I’ll get straight to it and let you all know that these will be my final months as a Manchester City player.
“Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes.
“That day is here – and you deserve to hear it from me first. Football led me to all of you – and to this city.
“Chasing my dream, not knowing this period would change my life. This city. This club. These people… gave me EVERYTHING.
“I had no choice but to give EVERYTHING back! And guess what – we won EVERYTHING. Whether we like it or not, it’s time to say goodbye.”
De Bruyne will go down as one of the greatest playmakers the Premier League has ever seen. He clocked 100 assists faster than any other player (237 games).
The Belgian recorded 70 goals and 118 assists in the English top flight in 280 appearances while bagging two Player of the Season awards. He topped the assist chart three times.
Since joining Man City in 2015, he has created the most chances (827), the most big chances (193) and the most assists (118) in the Premier League.
De Bruyne has been linked with River Plate, Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and San Diego FC, but his future remains uncertain. The Saudi Pro League is also an option for the former Genk star.
He will hope to leave Man City on a high note. They are into the semi-finals of the FA Cup and are determined to lift the trophy after losing the final to arch-rivals Manchester United last term.
