Dan Neil will look for a new club this summer after leaving Sunderland. Speaking to Sunderland Echo, Kevin Phillips suggested the 24-year-old would suit a leading Scottish Premiership team.
Neil is a free agent after the Black Cats confirmed their retained list on Wednesday. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Ipswich Town in the Championship.
Rangers have been repeatedly linked, although there has been no firm indication of his next move. Phillips believes the Academy of Light graduate has the qualities to thrive if he opts for Glasgow.
He highlighted Neil’s technical ability, box-to-box running, energy and willingness to take the ball, adding that he also carries a goal threat. In Phillips’ view, that profile would fit clubs who dominate possession and create frequent chances each week.
Neil made three Premier League appearances for Sunderland last season before switching to Portman Road, where he helped Ipswich secure promotion back to the top flight.
