Kevin Phillips believes there is a chance Sunderland could allow Wilson Isidor to leave in the summer if his minutes do not improve. Speaking to Sunderland Echo, the former Black Cats striker said the forward may reassess his options at season’s end.
Isidor began brightly, scoring four in his first nine Premier League appearances, but he has not scored since late October and has slipped behind Brian Brobbey. Everton and Besiktas were linked in January.
Head coach Regis Le Bris said he has held several discussions with Isidor about his role, calling him a good player who remains important now and for the future. He pointed to Brobbey’s form and said Eli Mayenda and Isidor are ready when called upon, adding that young players new to the league naturally experience dips.
Le Bris accepted the striker’s frustration, comparing this spell to last season’s pattern and stressing that staff are supporting and challenging him. He described the dialogue with Isidor and his agent as open and constructive.
Phillips argued that Brobbey has rightly nailed down the starting berth, and that Isidor must keep fighting to regain it. He suggested Sunderland could look at a move in the summer if they can recruit a replacement, noting interest in January but backing the decision to keep the Frenchman for now.
