Wingback Matteo Ruggeri is back for Atalanta in Thursday’s Supercoppa Italiana clash with Inter Milan, while strikers Mateo Retegui and Gianluca Scamacca are still out.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter and Atalanta face off in the Supercoppa Italiana on Thursday.
The two teams meet in the first semifinal. The winner will take on either Juventus or AC Milan in the final of the competition.
Thursday’s match could be a real bellwether in the Serie A title race. Both the Nerazzurri and La Dea are very much in the hunt.
But beyond that, it will also represent an important opportunity to pick up silverware for the first time this season.
Both Inter coach Simone Inzaghi and Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini will be keen to have strong squads available for Thursday’s match.
In Inzaghi’s case, he has a boost in the form of Matteo Darmian being back. However, Benjamin Pavard and Francesco Acerbi are still out.
Meanwhile, Gasperini is getting one regular starter back.
Wingback Ruggeri is a key player for Atalanta on the left flank. And the 22-year-old will be able to be in the squad on Thursday after missing Saturday’s Serie A draw with Lazio.
On the other hand, striker Mateo Retegui will not be able to make his return. Nor will Gianluca Scamacca, the player whose injury he was signed to cover for.
