A week ago, Liam Rosenior likely knew he wasn’t going to keep his job after defeat to Brighton. He decided to finally call out his players’ efforts in the last few weeks.

In a way he was proven right yesterday, where Chelsea – now under an interim manager – instantly improved and got an FA Cup semi final win. Key to that win was defender Trevoh Chalobah, and he was asked about those accusations of low-effort from Rosenior.

Chalobah responds to criticism of Chelsea players’ efforts

“The past is the past. For us, it is about results and winning games,” Chalobah said, shrugging off the criticism without really addressing it.

“We still have the same players that we had at the start of the season when we were flying so it is not like we lose our abilities over night. It is just about resetting and getting that feeling and mentality back.”

Meanwhile his teammate Robert Sanchez called Calum McFarlane’s arrival a “breath of fresh air” in the same interview with the BBC.

In other news…

Chalobah also spoke about the dressing room feeling after Liam Rosenior was sacked – you can imagine it’s been pretty low.

Newcastle look like they’re interesting in Chelsea attacker Nicolas Jackson. It’s unlikely he’d be keen on that sort of step down from Bayern Munich…
